GRASP

GRASP

GRASP consists of seven different videos, each self-sufficient yet united under one overarching concept. At the core of Hamill Industries' practice, "grasping" embodies the creation of visual artwork that appears strikingly real, organic, and tangible. For the Load gallery, Hamill Industries present several iterations of the previous piece SURGE, newly resignified in this space as fragmented ingredients of an alchemical formula.

The videos – called Water, Fire, Refractions, Ice, Lava, Cosmos, Alchemy – represent materialities, blended together to explore macroscopic landscapes. They mirror geological conditions and evoke primordial energy in transformation: water ripples, lava, ice, light refractions, energy outbursts, and eruptions. Each landscape has been meticulously chosen; these pieces capture the dynamic forces of organic matter, transporting the audience to Hamill’s cosmogenesis and crafted materialities.

Every image has been accurately shot in the studio, with all explosions, textures, materials, and sparks crafted in-camera to immerse the viewer in a sensory journey through dynamic landscapes. The project employs various techniques central to Hamill Industries’ practice, including time-lapse, slow-motion pigments, and Schlieren flow visualisation.

The pieces juxtapose diverse terrains, colours, and materials to illustrate nature’s fury and highlight the beauty and power of natural processes, reminding viewers of nature’s unmatched power and humbling them with its force.
