Spacefiller – Alex Miller

Neo Botanica. An Atlas of Artificially Generated Flora

SPACEFILLER is a Seattle-based artist duo, Alexander Nagy and Alexander Miller, whose long-time collaborative practice spans visual art, music, programming, and mathematics. The name SPACEFILLER refers to a pattern in Conway's Game of Life,

a mathematical model that displays emergent behaviour, and relates to the artists' desire to create disorienting, light-filled installations.

Through generative algorithmic graphics, projection mapping and tactile interaction, SPACEFILLER seeks to establish venues for experimentation, play and discovery. By allowing viewers to manipulate the parameters of simulated natural systems, they create an opportunity to explore the delicate balance between order, chaos and randomness.
