"I try to be both artist and scientist, I keep in mind quantic theories while working and try to explore the "invisible". I capture microscopic elements to represent the gigantic or the opposite, with the minimum amount of computer work or CGI."

  1. Thomas Vanz is a French piano composer and director who began making films in 2014. His work is based on chemical reactions; he creates visual effects with inks, pigments, and various chemical products to recount tales of the cosmos's history.

  2. His first experimental short film, Novae (2016), focused on illustrating a supernova with humble tools. Using only an aquarium, ink and water, and avoiding CGI, the artist analogously visualised cosmic events on a macroscopic scale. The film won the first prize at the Quantum Festival.

  3. In 2017, Vanz released his second film, Intra, which depicted the journey into a black hole. The film offered an authentic visualisation of a spinning black hole and an artistic interpretation of the white hole theory – a hypothetical point where everything is born, including space and time.

  4. Vanz directed the music video Bright Side for composer Darius's album Utopia. The video's main themes were the birth of light and the triumph of brightness over darkness in the cosmos. He has also directed Hope and Let There Be for Max Cooper.

  5. In 2019, Vanz created the immersive film Verse for the Atelier Des Lumières in Paris. From 2020 to 2023, he worked on runway shows for Dior and scenography for the DS4 launch. In 2024, he became a creative director for Digr and began creating immersive exhibitions in virtual reality and physical locations.
