"My creative journey seeks to capture the sublime essence of the landscape and transform it into a spiritual experience. The "Portals Series" represents the synthesis of this ongoing journey, exploring the symbolic significance of the wavy line—a motif ingrained in the natural world. These sinuous lines, whether found in mountains, rivers, or lightning, symbolise both separation and connection, serving as gateways to the unknown and the void. In my interpretation, these fissures transcend mere divisions; they become conduits for detachment and evolution, mirroring the human condition." 

  1. Mario Rodríguez (Mexico City, 1981) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Barcelona. His practice spans painting, sculpture, and installations, with occasional explorations into audiovisual and digital art in collaboration with other artists.


  2. Rodriguez's background in architecture informs the geometric precision and spatial relationships in his installations. It propels the ability to abstract and minimise the essence of the concept he wants to explore, the choice of materials, and the subtlety of how they are used.


  3. Mareo Rodriguez's work is deeply influenced by nature, specifically landscapes, geology, and topography of places. Nevertheless, it has never been directly linked to a specific real space-time, but rather stems from an imaginary condition.


  4. His practice encapsulates the dichotomy between "Matter" in the physical realm and "Light” in the quest for the ethereal and sacred. He perceives natural forces as dynamic, living energies shaped by time, viewing matter as condensed light—a cluster of frequencies materialised to enable human experiences.  He is interested in a relationship of recollection, introspection, immersion, and strives to touch the soul of people through his art and transmit light to them.


  5. Mareo often uses monochromatic palettes, incorporating materials like copper and gold to symbolise light and energy, drawing inspiration from Pierre Soulages. For him, colour is not a surface decoration, but a means and a way of reinforcing a concept.
